In 2007 SafeSave's sister organisation, Shohoz Shonchoy, based in Gazipur, central Bangladesh, began to offer a radical new combined saving and loan tool for poor people. It proved popular.

Subsequently it was taken up and trialled for delivery over the mobile phone in Kenya.

Then in October 2010 Rutherford introduced it to Kalyanpur, an urban slum in Bangladesh, and in August 2011 the Kalyanpur work was bought by SafeSave, who is now operating it.
